Festivals in Chalki island

The two biggest festivals in Halki are organized in August, an ideal time to visit the island. The reason for the  festival of the Fifteenth of August  and the  Dissection of the Sacred Head  of John the Baptist, which are worth experiencing up close! The fifteenth of August is solemnly celebrated in Panagia Choriani, which is located in the village of Chalkis and is about 2 km from the port of Nibori. Preparations in the Village usually start a few days before. The Dissection of the Holy Head is celebrated on  August 29 , in the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Alargas. It is a good opportunity to learn the customs of Halki, the life of the inhabitants and to try the delicious delicacies of the island. Other festive events worth experiencing are the Festival at the Monastery of the Cross on  September 14  and the picturesque customs of the  Epitaph  and the  Resurrection  on Holy Saturday.
